[glow=brown,2,300]The Essence of Alchemy[/glow] [glow=brown,2,300] It's been 16 years since the rise of the Golden Sun over the now ruined Mt. Aleph. Now, the awesome might of Alchemy has been unleashed upon the dying world of Weyard, which once stood upon Death's door. Now, Weyard has been revived, and Alchemy and it's uses have spread quickly throughout the land. Many people were quickly gaining the ability to use psynergy, the use of Alchemy into a partial physical form. The continents were slowly beginning to move back into the places in which they stood many years ago. During this time, Isaac's and Felix's parties have continued to travel throughout Weyard, maintaining peace between newly rising countries. Meanwhile, King Hydros, king of Lemuria, has dispatched a lone adept to investigate a small portion of Weyard. However, the road would be a long one, and thats just the beginning that will take you on a journey towards the Essence of Alchemy...[/glow] [glow=brown,2,300]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~[/glow] [glow=brown,2,300]Chapter 1: Arrival at Alhafra[/glow] It was a calm day, and the seas were soft near the southernmost continent, Osenia. The bustling streets of Alhafra were filled with people looking for the not-so-everyday-item they've always wanted amognst the small shops set up along the streets. It was rather loud, people laughing, shouting, and talking, animals barking, or sqwauking, whatever the case may be. The port was beginning to empty, the local fishermen sailing out to sea like a small fleet of small ships, each heading for a different spot where they believe luck would strike. It was a normal, everyday routine practised by the Alhafran's for years. Out in the distance however, was a much larger ship, heading for the Alhafran port at full speed, if not, faster. The massive ship had a large prow that looked like a larger dragon head, tearing through the water at an incredible speed. The ship had no oars and no sails, and steam engines were'nt even thought of yet. There was also no wheel to "steer" the ship. It was a Lemurian ship, controlled purely by psynergy. Nicodemus stood atop the strange looking crows nest of the ship, his arms crossed, his eye's set for the distant Alhafran port. He smirked as the fishermen, in their puny little boats, looked up and gazed at the ship in awe.

Ariane sighed as she strolled through Alhafara's bazaar. She just finished a job escorting a small family to the bustling city. They were from Madra, and were hoping for a new life so they moved to Alhafara. Ariane looked at the various items for sale, seeing if there was anything she needed. She felt the weight of her purse, too light for her liking. The family paid her half of what the trip escort was worth, but it was all that they had and she was going to Alhafara anyway. Not many people traveled on foot around here, with the monsters about. Ariane sighed again; business was slow for her. Perhaps she should have stayed in Angara.
Well, at least Ariane had enough gold to stick around for a few days while she looked for work. Perhaps she should try the docks, even if she didn't find work she'll have a nice view of the ocean.
Ariane took in the salty air as she ventured to the docks, immidiately she noticing the commotion going on as she got near. What's going on, I wonder. It didn't take long for her to see what was up, a very large ship had just docked in the harbor. Ariane just tilted her her head, "What a curious looking ship."

Nicodemus had climbed down from the crows nest and entered the ship, as it miraculously came to a sudden halt even through the fast speeds. Of course, it was his psynergy that stopped the ship. He stepped into the cabin and observed, seeing what he may need to take. Then he remembered; he must get the black orb from below that channels psynergy into the ship. Without it, the ship is nothing more than lost space, but if he left it, any adept could come by and steal the ship. He headed below decks, past the large storage rooms, and into the "core" of the ship. There on a small pedestal was the black orb, strange blue lights emenating from the walls and floor around him. He took it in for a few seconds, then simply took the orb and placed it in a large satchel on his side.
He walked back into the cabin and grabbed his supplies; another satchel filled with food and water, his silver sword, his compass, his maps and charts, a journal with a quill and ink, a few vials of Lemurian water from the Lemurian Fountain, and some herbs. He checked his traveling clothes and tightened his boots, then left the cabin onto the pier.

"Whoa," Ariane blinked at the site of Nicodemus. He was unlike any person she had ever seen, and she had traveled pretty far for someone of her age. She was puzzled though, when no one else came off the ship. A ship that size has to have a large crew, perhaps they are just below deck? For some reason, Ariane wasn't too sure. But this man was definately the captain, a well off one at that. The tiniest of smirks graced the young woman's lips. If she played her cards right, she wouldn't have to worry about the weight of her purse for a long while.
She loitered, waiting to see where he would go, and hoped that the man would stop off at either the tavern or the inn. She didn't attract attention to herself, although her garb clearly showed that she wasn't from the area, that would be unwise.

Nicodemus walked onto the pier, whistling, then he stopped abruptly. He noticced a large crowd was staring at him and his ship. He smiled awkwardly then walked away, looking at the various faces in the crowd. There was an old guy with eye brows so thick you could'nt see his eyes, and a young, pretty woman who looked like she was from some distant land, and some really thin guy, and many other faces. He sped up his pace and headed for the inn.
When he walked in, he took a seat at one of the small tables. The inn was noisey and uncomfortable to eat in, but Nicodemus wanted to eat. He ordered a plate of Alhafra's famous lobster and began to eat, his eye's observing the roudy Inn.

The lanky bartender placed a large tankard of ale in front of Nicodemus. "This is fro' tha lady o'er there," He pointed over at Ariane. She glanced over for the briefest of moments, flipped her hair back, and leaned back in her chair as she took a swing of her own drink. It was juice, not alcohol, as she had no taste for it, but she figured the strange man might.

Nicodemus looked at the ale, it's smell getting into his nose. "Er, yes, thank you, sir. I'll thank her myself." Said Nicodemus awkwardly. He pushed the ale away and continued with his meal. When he finished, he stood up and tucked his chair in. Leaving the plate and two gold coins behind, he picked up the tankard of ale and handed it to some other drunk guy at the bar. The dunk mumbled his thanks as his hairy, unclean face was filled with drunken shock. "Sure thing, buddy." Said Nicodemus stepping away, his nose irritated by the foul smell that haunted the bar.

"You don't like ale?" Ariane asked Nicodamus, eyebrows raised. Another small smirk played on her lips, "Let me get you something else then." She grabbed a few more coins out of her purse, the movement drawing attention to her sword at her hip. It was the one memento of her grandfather, a fine blade he found in some ruin somewhere, said it was from some anceint civilization or another.
" 'Oy!" Ariane called to the bar wench, "Refill, and get another for him." She tilted her head over to the Nicodamus' direction as she flicked the payment to the wench. "I'm not much of an ale drinker myself, but have met plenty of men who are. Pardon me for my assumption. My name is Ariane by the way."
((finally finished my bio... the rest of the info finally game to me ^_^U))

Nicodemus looked at Ariane. "My name is Nicodemus. Tell me, why do you insist on purchasing me things?" asked Nicodemus, his arms crossed.

"Sheesh," Ariane stopped leaning back on her chair, "I'm only trying to be friendly. You're not from around these parts are you." The bar wench came back with the drinks and quickly left.

"Ah...yes, I'm sorry. I have no excuse. As an example of my apology, why dont I pay for the drinks?" said Nicodemus. He looked around the bar and felt out of place. He turned back to her and smiled.

The guy had an interesting accent, not one she could place of course. "Polite too, eh?" Ariane gave a genuine smile at Nicodemus. She motioned for him to pull up a chair at the table. "So what business do you have in this little ol' harbor town?" She asked, her voice was playful. Her bright eyes seemed to glow in the dim light of the inn.

Nicodemus walked over to her table, smiled, and took a seat. "Well, I came to port here as an area to keep my ship, The Typhoon, at a safe port while I journey to Champa. Nothing top secret, I'm just supposed to investigate them for my king and country." said Nicodemus, relaxing in his seat.

"Champa," Ariane didn't expect that, "That's in Angara, quite a ways by land. What about your crew?" The woman ran her fingers through her hair. She tried her best to stay casual as thousands of questions burst into her head. Mission? King? Who the hell was this guy? She also wondered if he was sane. To get to Champa by land from Alfahara, he'll have to journy through four continents!

Nicodemus let out a small laugh. "Yes, Champa is quite a ways, but the sea near it is very stormy, even for my ship. And, I have no crew. It's only me." said Nicodemus, drinking some of his juice.
