No Remaining Alternative is quickly drawing to a close, so I am preparing my next campaign. Here's some background, if anyone's interested in joining it; I'll start it up as soon as NRA is complete.
The kingdom of Phyrexia has stood for time out of mind. Populated by beings called the Phenicians, a highly-advanced avianoid race, it has been in existance for hundreds of years. The Phenicians, slightly xenophobic by nature, have simply kept their kingdom sequestered off from the rest of the world. Few have ever set foot inside their land.
The race itself can be subdivided into three subspecies of Phenicians. The first, called the Srii, are highly intelligent, but frail. They are the only subgroup of the Phenicians which can control mana, and are highly gifted in this skill. Some have even begun manipulating the mana within their own bodies, effecting changes commonly referred to as "shape-shifting." Every Phenician emperor has at least one Srii at his side as an advisor, both for his wisdom and his adeptness at magic.
The second subgroup, called the Tekk, are the most well-balanced of the three. Since they lack magical skill, they have turned to another realm: technology. Their technology is what powers the highly-advanced capital city of Phyrex. Very recently, they have begun working with select members of the Srii on a new project— reviving small samples of magitechnology. It is usually a Tekk who holds the throne of emperor, although there have been a few exceptions throughout history, most notably the Emperor Mage, Skraeth.
The third and final subspecies is the Kraath. These are the strongest of the three, but possess a strong sense of right and wrong (although they have little other intelligence to speak of). As such, they have been employed as the bodyguards, police force, and labor force of the kingdom. There was only one time a Kraath held the throne, during the reign of Tarl, "the Surprisingly Wise."
The three subraces have existed in harmony for almost a thousand years, until approximately five months ago. The emperor's fourteen-year-old son, Tarus, a Tekk, has been kidnapped. Tarus, due to his high rank in the political structure, was one of the overseers and chief engineers in the magitech project with the Srii. His captors' only message was written in Common, not Phenician, so it appears to have been done by outsiders... humans or half-elves, most likely. The emperor's advisor, however, is paranoid. He believes that the capture was actually done by a religious extremist faction called the Flock, which is claiming that the revival of magitechnology will doom the world as we know it. The emperor hasn't decided whether to believe the evidence or his advisor, but has started by doing both: He has sent out a petition for help both inside and outside the kingdom, something no emperor has done in the past 500 years. Anyone who can find and bring back his son will receive a reward of 10,000 gold shekels (each shekel is worth between 10-20 Gald).
Anyone interested?
