Okay, I didn't see anything in the first page so I decided to create a thread... so if there is one or if it is on the first page but has a weird title, gomen.
First, I don't own a PS2.... I really want to though. However, a friend has gone back to New York for awhile and she's letting me borrow her PS2 while she's gone. I started playing her other games but.... another friend of mine has Okami and he's letting me borrow it (he has it on his hardrive.)
GET THIS GAME NOW!!!! It is the most awsome game. Some people call it Zelda for PS2, which I understand. But it's a really fun game and it's PRETTY.... You play as Amaterasu (aka Sun Mother Goddess of Japanese mythology), and you basically have to save Nippon (which is Japan in Japanese ^_^) from destruction from... I'm guessing it's a demon-type creature, called Orochi. You have Divine Instruments that you use for a weapon (the first one you get, and if you seen the videos for it, looks like a firery mirror, but you get other ones later). Another major aspect in the game is the Celestial Brush... By pressing R1 you kinda "pause" the game and everything kinda turns into a painting... note: everything is kinda in a sepia tone, it's a japanese type painting, no color. Anyway you use the Celestial Brush to effect the environment (and you can use it against enemies). If there is a gigantic rock in the way, you draw a horizontal line across it and when you get out of paintbrush mode, the rock splits in half and you can pass. If the bridge is broken, you fill in the broken part and viola! It's fixed. There are thirteen "strokes" that you learn and it's just really fun and cool. I played until 6 in the morning Sat and on Sun I played until it was 430 so I've gone through a lot.
More on story: The country is falling into decay and the gods have been weakened because not many people believe in them as much as they used to. So since you are playing as the Mother Goddess/ Goddess of Life. You are reviving the land... One of the things that I like is that when you run and such, grass and flowers grow where you have stepped (and they disappear after you move on.) It looks so cool when you're running topspeed and all of these flowers are appearing behind you.... How you level up is interesting too. As I said, the gods' power has weakened since Divine Intervention is low... so people believe in the gods less than they have before. So you do a bunch of stuff like help people out, make things grow/bloom, feed the animals and earn Praise. You use the Praise to raise certain devine attributes (like increasing your Ink "meter", increasing your health meter, getting more Astral Pouches [when filled, is like an extra life] etc.)
Each area you get to are first cursed. Once you revive a guardian tree in the area the whole area is revived (which there is an awsome cinematic and the music is so gorgeous when this happens... I always get goosebumps when it happens). And then you can travel around the new area and do stuff...
I've probably rambled on about this too much but it's such a cool and fun game and I really recomend getting it. I consider it a masterpiece. So get it! ^_^
