Ari pouted in response. She didn't like the sound of this, not at all. "Maybe I should actually read our maps for once... at least then, I'd be mentally prepared..." Thoughts of a big, black spider crawled into her mind like the menacing creature it was. She could almost hear the cold dripping of venom from its fangs and the soft clicks of its feet on hard stone walls. "...or not." Inside, she knew that she'd never get over her fear of spiders.

Cyrus chuckled softly, wrapping a comforting arm around Ari's shoulder. "Don't worry, Ari... I'll protect you from the evil spider. Remember what I did to the last one?" he reminds her, gently prodding said shoulder. "I can handle a giant spider or two. You've got nothing to worry about."
Some ten feet behind them, Terix gave a mockingly-dramatic sigh. "'Don't worry, Ari...'" he mumbles, in his best parody of Cy's voice. "'I'll protect you!'" «...right. More like you'll go charging into battle like some white knight of idiocy, and I'll get stuck saving you again. Oi.» Another sigh.

Ari smiled at Cyrus' comment, leaning her forehead on his shoulder in an exhausted manner. It wasn't so much as fatigue. Just the unforgiving heat. The half-elf felt like she was about to wilt, but she still managed to smile for her companion. "Thanks Cyrus... I'll hold you to that."
She heard Terix muttering something in the background, but she didn't care about what he said, though she had few faint ideas... "I think your brother's making fun of you again," she commented with a soft laugh.

"I, personally, would be more then happy to fight a spider in a cave, as long as it's nice and cool inside." Kalphin could almost feel the cool air on his skin, brushing against his skin. Ah, the joy of non-heat. He reached for his canteen once more, and quickly learned that it was empty. "Aww... I didn't even realize I drank the rest. I didn't even get to savor the sweet, sweet flavor of its delicious... wetness."

Cyrus shrugged his available shoulder, careful not to jostle Ari's head as it rested on his shoulder. "Bah, I don't care," he replied softly, slowing his pace to compensate. "Doesn't matter in the long run whether or not I notice it. He'll do it anyway, and noticing will just let him get a rise out of me. S'not worth it." Another gentle squeeze.

She laughed again, pulling away from Cyrus as she heard Kalphin's call. "I'm going to go see what Kal's going on about..." With a few agile steps, Ari made her way to another companion, only to find him looking forlornly at his canteen... which was empty. Needless to say, the poor guy was thirsty. "Here you go." Ari untied her water-proof leather pouch from a belt around her waist. "I think you could use this." She handed him her provision of water. It must've been something in her blood-- she didn't get thirsty or hungry very often.

"But that's your water, it's not in me to take it from you, I'm sure I can last at least until he find this spider and hopefully cool cave. Actually, since it's within a forest, the shade should provide a cool atmosphere, and I'm sure fresh water will be around somewhere. Thank you though."

Cy's shoulders slumped as the light weight of Ari's head removed itself - «Yep, Cy's still a lovesick little sap.» With a soft, forlorn sigh, the quarter-elf followed in Ari's footsteps, presumably to "check" on Kalphin.
Terix, meanwhile, was hard at work studying the map. Or rather, hard at work analyzing an inconsistency in the map. "Ok, that's not right..." he murmured, staring at an oddly-shaped hill. "According to the map, that hill should be over there," —indicating some place over his shoulder, conveniently hill-less— "...not here. What's up with this..?"
As Terix studied the hill, he jumped; or rather, would have jumped, had his feet been on the ground. As it were, he bob-floated higher into the air for a second in surprise. His surprise, surprisingly enough (almost by definition), was that the hill... was moving.
Four flipperlike feet slid out from the sides of the hill as a massive, green-brown head poked itself out from under a palm tree. The entire "hill" picked itself up on its flippers and slowly made its way to the east, bringing its plant life with it.
"...that... is a big turtle." The map, completely forgotten in the wake of the Turtle of Largeness +1, lay curled up on the ground nearby. Terix was tempted to join it.

"But really! You need it more than I do," Ari replied in kind to Kalphin. "Take it, I insisit! I probably won't even use it..." She tossed the water at him, skipping off before he could respond. Returning to Cyrus' side, she smiled happily, almost forgetting the heat.
"I think Kal's problem has been fixed!" She found joy in helping others. "How far do you think our next destination is?" the half-elf asked Cyrus. "I'd like a change in scenery sometime soon..." The miles and miles of endless sun-burnt grass was getting old.

"Pssh, running off and leaving me with this water, not even bothering to let me give it back..." He took a small drink from the pouch, and ran back toward Ari. He just couldn't accept a gift so large.

"It should be just past that... turtle..." Cyrus' voice trailed off as the monstrous turtle crossed their path, the palm trees on its back waving gently in the wind. "...okay, I'll admit it. I was not expecting that."
As the turtle left their path, a stereotypically dark and dank forest hove into view. ...how a forest can be dank is beyond me, but there it was. A forest. Positively dripping with... dank... ness.
...yeah.
Meanwhile Terix had recovered his thoughts, disengaging the "babble-like-a-moron" gear his tongue was currently locked in. "It's just a turtle, Ter... jeez." «Ok, big turtle... big, big turtle... but still. It's just a turtle. Get over it.» He gathers the map to himself and opens it again to confirm that yes, this is indeed the Dark and Dank Forest Where the Spider Lives.
Sadly, it is. "Oh boy."

((k!))
A man wearing priest-cloathes walked slowly across the hot plains. Varas, his name, was indeed a priest. /me Of course, they send me again. He thought to himself, wipping the sweat off his forehead. "I guess thats what i get." Behind him, he dragged a rather large axe. /me you know, sometimes, i wished that thing were smaller.
Varas reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. "Head south through the woods, blah blah blah, turn toward the gulch from the cabin, yada yada, follow the river..... cross to the island. While there, et cetera et cetera, help any other people you find hired to retrieve the sword pieces." He mumbled whilst reading it. Soon, he folded the paper and placed it back in his pocket. "In this heat, and without any map, i'm definatly not going to find it on my own. Good thing i'm supposed to help anyone, cause it would be pretty hard without." So Varas set on his first task; finding someone.
After not long of scanning the horizon, he saw an odd shape in the distance, that seemed almost to move. "Well, no use standing around, time to move." He hoisted the axe up on his shoulders, and trudged along.

"...I love how a giant turtle moved and now there's a forest. It just doesn't surprise me for some reason." Kriven said, somewhat monotonously.
"I also love how my arm and leg just switched places..." Kriven says, again monotonously.
Indeed, it was true, Kriven's once stone leg was now normal, and clothed exactly like the other, however his arm was now made of the same stone-like material as his leg once was, complete with blue flaming mana.
