Well, if you've finished, you know that you get to use all the leftover grade to buy stuff to use for your new file. One must have is "Grade" at the bottom, which increases the amount of grade you get, meaning you'll have more grade for your 3rd time, 4th time, however many times you want to beat it (I've settled on at least 3 times). Another thing that is good is "Max HP". This ups your starting HP up by 500, which comes in handy. "Tech" may seem like a good idea, but in reality, it's not. Basically, the reason is because in the beginning, you don't have enough TP to support all the uber powerful attacks, which renders them useless. Another reason is that you might want to try a character's opposite side. An example is if on your first completion, Lloyd was on the "S" side, then maybe you'd like to try the "T" side instead. I would suggest "EX Gems", mainly because you might want the "EX Gem Max" that you get from beating Mithos at the end. The item selection is also good, it lets you hold 30 of each item, meaning you can stock up on more goods for boss battles and such. If you don't have enough Grade to get all this, i suggest you get "Grade" first, then whatever else you want. Then on your 3rd try, you'll have more Grade than usual, and be able to get more items for your "new" files.

To be honest while the extra exp is great and all it kind of sucks the fun out of the first part of the game because your levels dominate over the toughness of the enemies, I tend to opt for getting my gald back as well as keeping my skills and sometimes boosting my hp at the beginning.
My friend dominated the game so many times now he has enough grade to buy everything at least twice over -_-

I disagree with you. "Tech" proves to be extremely useful. Take an attack like meteor storm for Genis. You can only get this at the very end of the game, and it is the best spell. It is true that you can't use these spells at the very beginning of the game, but you will be able to use them way before you would be getting them your fist time through. Example: meteor storm costs 80 TP (which is a lot) but I was already able to use this spell by the time I was at the water temple. This proves to be very useful on bosses even if you can only use it once. Also, if you want to learn the other type of skill like T or S type, you can forget moves, so not keeping it for that reason doesn't make sense. Also some techs don't necessarily cost too much TP, but you just can't get them until you are at a certain level, so that is another counter argument. "Ex gems", while good, is something thing I would not go with unless I had grade left over. However "ex skills" is something very useful, just set the skills on your characters before beating the game, and they keep all the skills and gems they have on, that is more than enough you will need. I also recommend getting "10x exp." or "2x exp.". It is unlikely you will be able to get 10x the second time through unless you don't get anything else, but 2x is a good choice. This will make the game easier, faster, and also you will be able to use the techs (if you kept them) sooner. The other thing that pretty much depends on what you want is "titles". It is IMPOSSIBLE to get all the tiles in one play through, so if you are going for all titles, you should get that at the end of the game. I kept them because I got many difficult to get titles the first time through. Also there is "battle info" and "tech usage", that lets you keep the stats of the fights, like how many times you used an attack, and how many times you've been in battle. This may seem useless, but watch out, because it is very useful. If you chose not to keep techs, or if there is just some techs you haven't learned yet, this can be useful because it keeps the amount of times you have used the attacks, so you will have to spend less time trying to learn techs. Also if you plan to get the devils arms (weapons that increase in strength depending on how many enemies you've killed) keeping your stats is good cause it records the amount of kills, so by the time you get the devils arms the second time, they should be extremely powerful. There are a few other things that are pretty pointless like "memory circles" and "memory gems" these are only good if you have grade left over. "cooking ability" can be good if you mastered many recipes with people. So what I got for the second time through was: Title----------1,000 grade Ex skills----------400 grade Play time(this just keeps your play time)----------10 grade Monster List----------10 grade GRADE(always get this no matter what)----------100 grade 2x exp----------1,000 grade World map----------10 grade Tech----------1,000 grade Collectors book----------10 Figurines----------10 Tech Usage----------25 grade I had a lot of grade because I spent many hours getting it, but the most important thing I think are GRADE, 2x exp. I would try and go for tech too, and besides that you can get what you want depending on how much you have left over, or what you plan to accomplish in the game.

If you want everything in the game... you'll have to buy somethings in order to get it
example to complete the monster list (which gets Raine a title): you have to complete the game at least twice. (Since if you get Kratos instead of Zelos in the end some battles are with different monsters.
collector's book: You have to play at least three different times for the Flanoir cutscene.
figurine book: I haven't been able to get all the figurines yet and i'm on the forth playthrough (although i ahve all of the level three figurines)
Everything up above actually gets a title... and the things above are really cheap like 10 Grade or something.....
One problem with Grade (that's the doubling one right?) If you happen to do a battle badly (especially a boss battle) it'll double the negative Grade which sucks.... just to let people know...

Beating the game at level one doesn't work, With so many boss fights I kept only Lloyd, Collete, and Genis at level one. The others have to be higher. It was funny fighting Abyssion with three level 1 and one level 250.....It was Raine, so still tough....but fun to do.
